Women farmers became empowered

This is the case of Sekh Adhir, Sabgadha-6, Gaur Municipality. 28 years old her wife is living with 4 family members, one son, one daughter and her husband. She is the member of women group. She has only 2-3 Kathas of land and even group members had also the same rage of land. However, for the commercial farming more land is required. Through the Socio-economic Empowerment Project, a power tiller was supported to the group. After the support, she has planned that commercial farming, kitchen gardening, leasehold farming should be started.

They have talked with the land holder to take the 13 kaths of land. They are doing the small scale vegetable farming like chili, Cowley flower, cabbage and eggplant so on. They are earning 6000-7000 per month as well as using for their consumption purpose as well. Such an income is not sufficient for them. They realized that it should be up scaled to large scale of commercial farming. Previously he used to go gulf countries for the income and employment. She convinced her husband that if he supports her then the similar income should be raised at their own place from commercial farming. In addition, she has a small shop in at her home. From that they are managing their livelihood. In doing so, she has planned to meet with agriculture knowledge center to get seed, fertilizer and equipment on subsidies. She has some goat and has planned to start goat rearing as well in the coordination with ward office by proposing for the seed money or technical support. They have also planned to link their production, group farming and marketing with the local market as well. There is a tradition to go overseas for the earning however this program encourages the people to stay at own place, work, earn, live together with family. Get the agro-vet license.
